@toonstunesandtras: Happy 75th anniversary of “A Bear For Punishment” (Dir. Jones/Wr. Maltese), released October 20, 1951. Twas sadly, the final cartoon for Chuck Jones’ Three Bears, who are possibly the most underrated characters in the entire Warners stable. (Not to be confused with the Beary Family. They were Lantz. They blow hard.) They had only five cartoons. Same as Taz. Same as Marvin. Both obvi became infinitely more popular, but for me, each had a clunker or two. The family bear batted 1.000. All hilarious exercises in emotional and physical domestic abuse from what has to be the first animated depiction of severe familial dysfunction. These shorts may be the darkest the Looney Tunes got.
