Daphne received its first published review today from Jessie Hobson at CineDump. I put a ridiculous amount of work into this just over three minute short film. Daphne is really a proof of concept for something much bigger and a chance for me to show what I can do when I take the style of horror I’ve built my audience around and push it further into actual narrative filmmaking. That’s why this part of Jessie’s review meant so much to me: “The practical and digital effects work surprisingly well given the scale of the production, and while the short feels more like a proof of concept than a complete narrative, it leaves enough of an impression to make you curious about where McGee could take these ideas in a larger project.” That is exactly what I wanted Daphne to accomplish. I’ve built an audience through short form horror, but my goal has always been bigger than that. I want to direct films. I want to take the style I’ve developed and see what I can do with larger stories, larger productions and eventually feature films. Having Jessie Hobson recognize that potential in Daphne genuinely means a lot to me. I would attach more still of the film but it is not aloud on TikTok 😂 for now the film has been submitted in film festival, because of some of the policies in certain festival’s, I am not releasing a link to the film publicly, but eventually I will, I’ll attach the link to my linktree 🔗 That’s in my Bio. Check out all my worlds and links by clicking my linktree including Jessie’s review. Thank you Jessie and CineDump for taking the time to watch the film and give it a real review.
