my grandfather is a vet, he graduated vet school in the 70s and is still practicing. he encourages any and everybody to get into vet med. i can’t picture him doing any other job, he has always absolutely loved it and is the biggest cheerleader for young vets

Yeah but my concern is the loans. All I’ve ever wanted to do was this but half way through vet school and am scared because I feel like I won’t have a life after school because I will be in the most crippling debt. Never been on vacation with my husband, didn’t go on a honeymoon. And I don’t think we ever will because of the loans

everybody has a different experience in this and i’m happy you love this, it’s an amazing carreer. but i personally haven’t enjoyed the degree for the last 2 years, and the only thing that gets me through it are my friends and my love for animals. if it wasn’t because of them and the fact that i’m already in 5th year (in spain the degree takes 5 years), i’d drop out. but this was my dream and i’m going to finish it no matter what, whether i work as a vet or not. in no way i’m trying to tell people not to do it, a lot of my friends really enjoy it, it’s probably a me thing, but regardless of everything i’m happy i got in

I am a vet assistant and in college, my boss has been so horrible I've kinda given upp, and all I hear are horror stories. Im scared to have to put up with treatment for so many more years

wait guys I didn’t realize until recently that you basically don’t have a choice but to do 17 credit hour semesters and I genuinely think I’m too disabled for that. like I’m not even that disabled but for that I might be cooked. and now I really am reconsidering everything

Ugh I was told this numerous times and I changed my path.. now I work for veg as a VA and getting to work w exotics and farm animals is so amazing. I love it all. I am switching to human med for a bit, but I know I’ll miss vetmed so much. Kinda wanna remain in school while in human med and apply for vet school for shits and giggles🙈

literally so nice to hear. i’m in undergrad right now and have heard that so much. i’m now working at a pet store and i love dealing with the different pets there. i truly think i was supposed to go into this field and i hope i can make it.

Yes!! Absolutely! I feel this falls into the territory of “I suffered so you must suffer” mentality. I went back and became a vet while raising a family and I had a “mentor” tell me that if I went to vet school I would end up divorced and my kids would hate me. Neither was true. In fact they were and are my biggest supporters and cheered the loudest when I graduated.

I wanted this career while I was in high school and was talked out of it so I went into pediatrics. I’m 40 and am still wishing I did and in the mean time I tnr and take care of my (11) colony cats that live where I reside.
