From athletes to culture, there was admiration, not division. The transatlantic slave trade was complex. Kingdoms like Ouidah, Dahomey, and Oyo were all involved at different times and their own people were also captured and sold. Individuals like Ayuba Suleiman Diallo from the Almamate of Bundu and female warrior Abdaraya Toya from the Dahomey Kingdom were sold despite coming from states that sold slaves.
