🦆💜 WHEN A DUCK’S HEART IS SCARED: HOW TO HELP A TRAUMATIZED DUCK HEAL 💜🦆 Did you know ducks can experience intense stress and fear after witnessing a predator attack, losing flock mates, being relocated, or experiencing something frightening? 💔 Here at Cluck and Waddle Rescue Farm, we’re helping our newest rescue, Waddles, recover after he witnessed his flock mates being taken by a bobcat. 💔 Here are 7 ways to help a frightened or traumatized duck feel safe again. 🦆❤️ 🏡 1. CREATE A SAFE, QUIET SPACE Provide a warm, dry, well-ventilated, predator-proof area away from loud noises, unfamiliar animals, and unnecessary handling. 💜 2. GIVE THEM TIME TO DECOMPRESS Don’t force interaction. Sit quietly nearby, speak softly, and let your duck become comfortable at their own pace. 💧 3. ENCOURAGE DRINKING AND EATING Always provide fresh water deep enough to dip their entire bill. Offer their regular balanced duck feed and a few familiar treats to encourage their appetite. 🦆 4. REMEMBER THAT DUCKS NEED COMPANIONSHIP Ducks are social animals. Losing flock mates can be extremely stressful. Safe visual or vocal contact with other healthy ducks may help them feel less isolated. ❤️ 5. OFFER GENTLE REASSURANCE Familiar voices, predictable routines, and calm surroundings can help rebuild their sense of security. Avoid forcing cuddles or handling if they seem frightened. 😴 6. ALLOW PLENTY OF REST A frightening experience can leave a duck exhausted. Give them a peaceful place to recover, but remember that extreme sleepiness or weakness can also signal illness or injury. 🩺 7. WATCH CLOSELY FOR WARNING SIGNS Ducks are experts at hiding illness! Persistent lethargy, refusal to eat, breathing changes, difficulty standing, or unusual droppings require prompt veterinary advice. Never assume these symptoms are simply emotional trauma. 💜 HEALING TAKES PATIENCE, NOT PRESSURE. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give a frightened animal is safety, consistency, companionship, and the freedom to feel secure again. Waddles may not be able to tell us what he’s experienced, but we’re going to do everything we can to help him feel safe and loved. 🦆💜 Have you ever helped a duck recover from a frightening experience? What helped yours? 👇 With love and a whole lot of feathers, 🦆 Cluck and Waddle Rescue Farm 💜 Every duck deserves a safe place to land. #DuckCare #DuckRescue #CluckAndWaddleRescueFarm #DuckOwners #AnimalRescue
