@user7037355331615: Our Nightmare With a Moving Company (The company’s name will not be disclosed until the investigation has been completed.) We hired a moving company based in Charlotte, NC, to move our belongings from Nashville, TN, to San Antonio, TX. Before hiring them, I researched reviews because of the scams and horror stories I had heard. Little did I know that Google reviews could be removed. On August 5, 2026, we received an initial quote of $8,089.00 after providing an inventory of our belongings. The representative explained the moving process and assured us that our belongings would be delivered within 10 business days. Since my husband’s employer was reimbursing our moving expenses, we moved forward based on the original quote. Throughout the process, we received conflicting information from multiple representatives, and we were repeatedly told there would be additional charges. We were assured that removing items from the shipment would reduce our quote and potentially result in a reimbursement. However, two days before pickup, we were quoted an additional $1,400. To avoid that expense, we rented a U-Haul trailer to transport some of our belongings ourselves, which the original representative approved. The day before our move, we were given a pickup window of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. On October 8, our moving day, my husband received a call requesting payment through Zelle, despite having been told he could pay in cash, as specified in our contract. During that call, the representative apparently believed she had placed my husband on hold or muted the phone. We overheard her speaking negatively about my husband, misrepresenting what he had said, and making disparaging remarks about other customers and employees. I recorded the conversation. Once she realized we were still connected, she went quiet. We never received a follow-up call. The movers arrived at approximately 1:45 p.m., 45 minutes after our scheduled window ended, without any prior notification of the delay. They arrived in a U-Haul truck, and we had never been informed that a third-party crew would be handling our belongings. The movers told us they had been waiting in a parking lot for approximately an hour and had experienced payment issues with the company. Despite this, the movers themselves were kind and handled our belongings carefully. At pickup, we were told we owed an additional $500, despite removing multiple bulky items from the shipment. After arguing with the same representative, she reduced the additional charges by $400. She also claimed we had been charged $1,000 for “expedited pickup,” despite this fee never being disclosed during our initial conversation on August 5. She insisted the fee was in our contract but refused to show us where. When I requested a supervisor or a phone number to contact one, she refused. I have a recording of this conversation as well. Before leaving, the foreman provided my husband with the name of the facility where our belongings were being stored and the unit number. He asked us not to tell the company he had shared this information because he feared losing his contract. He also stated that he did not like “shady people.” We have text messages documenting this interaction, along with messages that appear to show the foreman accidentally sending my husband a text intended for another crew member referencing a scratch on my husband’s computer desk. Screenshots are attached. We have retained recordings, text messages, and other documentation supporting our account of these events. We are withholding the company’s name until the investigation is complete. We hired this company expecting honest communication, transparent pricing, and professional service. Instead, we experienced conflicting information, unexpected charges, unprofessional conduct, and a refusal to provide answers or allow us to speak with a supervisor. We will share further updates as we are able. Please tag news stations in North Carolina. #fyp #foryou fyp

We had a very similar situation with a moving company in Washington when we moved back down south. They loaded all our stuff into a 3rd party truck and demanded another $2k. Never again!

Since bad customer service isn’t a crime, any “investigation” would be done by the company, right?

Moving companies are a scam. My Husband and I moved from Arizona to Michigan. We received a quote after providing information on my big items and stair counts on both properties. I counted each box, measured for each box, weighed them and I provided an itemized list of each box and what it contained. Obviously way overboard on planning, but I had heard so many horror stories. Day of the move came, they were 6 hours late and only had 2 guys to do the work. To help expedite, ourselves and family helped with the loading since we needed to be out of our apartment by 8pm that day. Once everything was loaded, we were told it would take 2 weeks to get to Michigan. Three weeks later we get a call saying that we did not provide accurate route information that did not include tolls. I never realized after doing such detail work of packing that I also had to plan the drivers route. 😅 Here's the other kicker, we also owed them 2,000.00 more dollars. They claimed we did not provide enough information on how much product and furniture was being moved and they will not deliver until the balance was paid. By this time my Husband and I had been sleeping on the floor with air mattresses for a month. Two weeks guarantee my ass! After fight after fight we did settle to recieve my stuff. Now you think ok, finally I can breathe. I will get my stuff and start a new leaf in a new city. Nope, drivers call. They cant cross the bridge because of weather. They ask me where they are staying for the night? I am pretty sure I laughed so hard I choked. I said I am not your momma or your dispatcher call around and figure it out. I expect my property by 8am the next day or a sheriff will be involved. 8am the next day they show up, look at my stairs (which were quoted) and refused to move. My husband then pushed them aside opened the back of the truck, called our friends and family in the area and we made an assembly line up the stairs. It felt like a nightmare that would never end and for these companies to hold your property hostage to get even more money should be illegal. But of course there are more loop holes. I hope you can get something good from recording that interaction! 👏

We had something similar happen to us. Uping the price and trying to use Cash App. Got our things 3 days later with 3 totes missing and 2 things damaged. They allowed us to submit claim, yet no money resolved the lost items. The next time we used PakRat and did ourselves

Moving companies are huge ripoffs. My quote at pickup was $5,500, by the time they gouged me over and over from the storage space to my home and after load, they increased it to over $10,000. They picked up the day of closing my home and I had to have everything out that day. Moved 2000 miles. I will sell my stuff next time and buy all new because they also damaged or destroyed almost half my stuff then offered $85 for damages. I could have bought brand new everything for $10k and skipped the headache.
