@bridgettnesbit: 19-YEAR-OLD COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYER DIES IN BAY AREA HIGHWAY CRASH WEEKS AFTER STARTING FRESHMAN SEASON By Bridgett Nesbit SAN JOSE, Calif. — A 19-year-old college football player is dead following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 101 in the early morning hours of September 20. The passenger, identified as Jamarion “Pop” Grace, had just begun his freshman season at College of San Mateo. The vehicle lost control shortly after 2 a.m. on the San Jose stretch of the highway. Grace was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, while two teammates traveling with him sustained injuries. The loss came only weeks into his college career. He had recently enrolled after graduating from Vanden High School, where his play contributed to a state championship in 2024. His final exchange with his mother occurred earlier that night. After asking for a small amount of money and receiving it, he responded with a thank you and heart emojis. That message became the last contact his family received from him. Those who played alongside him describe a young man known for a constant smile and uplifting energy. At Vanden, he wore number 3 and helped anchor a championship program before moving to the junior college level. His death at age 19 has left his high school and college communities in mourning. #rip #fyp #footballtiktok #prayer #trending
