@bungustore: Even the lines on an ordinary ruler can introduce tiny measurement errors. Kokuyo's True Ruler solves this with alternating black and white bands, letting you measure from precise edges instead of thick markings. Originally an award-winning design concept, it's now part of Kokuyo's regular stationery lineup.
It's cute that you think a ruler is precise enough for the marking width to matter, but it's just not. If you actually need precision just get a set of vernier callipers.

made the lines thicker just to pretend the problems solved
it still has thickness

I always used the middle of the line itself. Who the fuck debated if it's before or after the line?

I feel like that just makes it more imprecise

The tip of a pencil is the same size as the lines on a ruler. If you need that high precision, a ruler is not the right tool.

A normal ruler is still accurate as long as you use the same edge each time

It’s easy with a normal ruler. It’s just relative to where you start measuring. If you start measuring from the middle of the first line, use the middle of the line. If you start from the edge, use the edge.

If you need to be extra precise get a digital caliper that can go to 0.01mm resolution

that's literally the same for any other ruler. As long as you consistently use one side of the nonzero width line you have the same outcome(that is taught during basic geometry on primary school). The only advantage is the iron/steel that has smaller coefficient of expansion.

You’re really not supposed to use a ruler as a straight edge, rulers are for measuring length, you make a line marking where to draw then, using a straight edge, you draw the actual line

so all you're measurements have a millimeter of tolerance 😁😁

as long as you're consistent in which side you use it's literally irrelevant.

if you need to be under a ruler mark’s width in precision you should be using verniers. if you can’t just measure from the left of the mark
