Riambase Secondary School Faces Scrutiny Over Proposed KSh. 2.06 Million KCSE Facilitation Fees Questions raised over examination integrity as complaint to KNEC looms A press briefing held today at Monarch Hotel has brought Riambase Secondary School under scrutiny over a proposed collection of KSh. 2.06 million from 515 KCSE candidates, with each student expected to pay KSh. 4,000. The school’s Principal, Mr. Justus Momanyi, faces questions over the legal basis and intended use of the money, following information indicating that class representatives from eight streams are collecting the funds, allegedly to facilitate KNEC examination personnel. During the briefing, the organisers announced plans to forward a formal complaint to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), demanding clarification on whether such collections are authorised and what safeguards exist to protect the integrity of national examinations. The briefing also disclosed that information had been received concerning more than 50 schools allegedly charging KCSE facilitation fees. Compilation of the list is ongoing, with Nyachogochogo AIC Secondary School, St. Clare Suguta Girls High School, Masosa Secondary School and Sameta Boys High School among the institutions identified for further scrutiny. KNEC, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other relevant institutions were urged to investigate the allegations, establish the legality of the collections and ensure that no learner is disadvantaged because of their parents’ inability or refusal to meet unverified financial demands. The organisers maintained that academic achievement must be founded on knowledge, competence and hard work—not financial inducements—and called for transparency and accountability for every coin collected. “KNEC must provide answers. Every coin must be accounted for. No learner’s future should be compromised.” The allegations require independent verification and responses from the respective institutions.
