@michaelamushelelo: My fellow Namibians, what is the difference between this truck that goes around selling food and our Street Vendors, who also seek high-traffic locations to earn a living? Our Street Vendors are perhaps some of the smartest and most resourceful individuals I have ever encountered. As soon as a new construction project begins, you will see them selling food and drinks to the workers. They understand where people are and where there is demand. They also seek locations with a high number of customers. That is not criminal behaviour; it is entrepreneurship and survival. What the City of Windhoek should enforce is proper cleanliness and responsible trading. Vendors who do not clean up their trading areas should be held accountable, just as any business should be. But Street Vendors should not be treated like Criminals simply because they are trying to feed their families. The reality is that Namibia has an Unemployment rate of over 50 percent, and there are very few opportunities for both graduates and non-graduates. Many people are forced to create their own opportunities because the formal economy is not providing enough jobs. Instead of harassing and confiscating the goods of Street Vendors, the City of Windhoek should work with them by creating designated trading spaces, providing access to sanitation and waste-disposal facilities, and establishing fair and practical regulations. We cannot police people out of Poverty. We cannot arrest Unemployment. We cannot confiscate Hunger. Street Vendors are not the enemy. They are Namibians trying to survive in a difficult Economy. For everyone saying they just want to put food on the table and has been operational for 30 years, Let’s keep in mind that street vendors also try to make a living.

Honestly, I felt so sorry for that aunty the day the police told her to pack up and leave. It’s heartbreaking because I genuinely believe that mamma is just trying to put food on the table for her children. Sometimes, we need to remember that behind every situation, there’s a person just trying to make ends meet.

it's all about keeping the city clean,
and the van is movable anytime,
but I think the city of windhoek were supposed to give a requirement of the condition of selling, maybe movable bicycles
