The day Hollywood’s backyard stood up for the King of Kings. On April 24, 1967, a historic event unfolded at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion that the world would never forget. Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia arrived in Los Angeles during his monumental U.S. state tour. This wasn’t just a regular diplomatic visit. The University of California conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws degree upon His Imperial Majesty, recognizing his fierce, lifelong commitment to global education and modernization. When the Conquering Lion of Judah took the podium, the crowd of over 4,000 students, faculty, and international dignitaries erupted into a massive standing ovation! In a beautiful exchange of culture, the Emperor gifted the UCLA library priceless, ancient illuminated manuscripts handwritten in Ge'ez from the heart of Ethiopia. Decades later, his profound words on how education develops the human intellect still echo. He proved to the western world that Africa holds a deep, ancient civilization unmatched in dignity. #creatorsearchinsights #HistoryTime #haileselassie #ethiopianhistory #teddyafro - @lij_teferi
