@bradexmedia: The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed schools to stop teachers and headteachers from asking students to perform household chores at their bungalows. GES Director-General Professor Ernest Kofi Davis said the directive reminds staff that the practice violates Section 3.7(v) of the GES Code of Conduct, which prohibits asking students to engage in household chores. Speaking to reporters, he said the directive had been issued to schools through regional directors, who are expected to remind staff of the rule. “We are going to write to schools to make sure that it doesn't happen because in our Code of Conduct, Section 3.7(v), it is written that the students are not expected to be asked to engage in household chores,” he stated. The directive comes amid public concern over allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School and calls to end the practice of students performing domestic duties at teachers’ residences. Professor Davis stressed that the practice was not acceptable and urged staff to familiarise themselves with the code.
