3:12am and I was sitting on the floor next to the crib trying not to cry loud enough to wake the baby I had JUST gotten back down. 😭 Which, if you’ve ever been there, is such a specific kind of insanity. Like I am actively crying because I am so tired, but also trying to cry QUIETLY because if I wake this child up again I may actually leave the country. 😂 I had already done the whole routine. Feed. Burp. Change diaper. Rock. Bounce. Walk around the room. Put her down. Pick her back up. Wonder if she hates the crib personally. Question every parenting decision I have made since birth. 🫠 And I just hit that wall. You know the one. Where nothing catastrophic is happening. Nobody is sick. Nobody is hurt. The baby is technically fine. You are just so unbelievably tired that someone asking you where the pacifier is could probably send you into a full emotional collapse. 😅 So I grabbed my phone because apparently that is what we do now when our nervous system is hanging on by dental floss. And I saw a hug from another mom. Switzerland. I actually stared at it for a second like… Switzerland?? 😂 Some woman thousands of miles away, living an entirely different life, was awake too. Then another hug came in from Pennsylvania. And suddenly I’m sitting there thinking about how completely bizarre motherhood is. Because I felt SO alone in that room. The house was dark. Everyone was asleep. It was silent except for the sound machine and me breathing like I had just completed an Ironman from rocking a 12-pound baby for 45 minutes. 😭 But I opened the map and there were moms everywhere. Little dots all over the place. And every single one represented someone awake. A mom nursing. A mom pumping. A mom warming a bottle. A mom who just got the baby down and refuses to breathe too aggressively. A mom whose toddler randomly decided 3am was morning. A mom sitting in the bathroom for two minutes because it is literally the only room where nobody is touching her. 😂 A mom crying. A mom scrolling. A mom wondering if she is doing any of this right. And I don’t know, it just made the room feel smaller somehow. Not in a bad way. Like suddenly all of us were on the same giant night shift. Different houses. Different cities. Different countries. Same crusty nursing bras and dead phone batteries. 😂 There is something really comforting about another mom not trying to FIX anything. Because sometimes I don’t need advice. I don’t need “have you tried putting the baby down drowsy but awake?” Ma’am. I have tried everything short of contacting NASA. 😭 I don’t need someone telling me this season goes fast. I KNOW. It can go fast and still feel approximately 47 years long at 3am. Sometimes I just need someone to say: Yep. I’m here too. This is hard. Keep going. ❤️ That’s basically what those little hugs felt like. Nothing changed after I got them. The baby did not magically sleep through the night. My boobs still hurt. I still had to get up again later. I was still exhausted in the morning. But for a minute, I didn’t feel like I was the only person awake in the entire universe. And honestly that matters more than I would have understood before becoming a mom. Because motherhood is weird like that. You can have people around you all day long and still feel lonely. You can have a baby physically attached to you and somehow feel completely by yourself. Then a stranger in Switzerland sends you a tiny heart at 3:12am and you’re like… okay. Maybe I can do another hour. 🥹💛 Sometimes support isn’t a huge conversation. Sometimes it’s just somebody turning their little light on so you know you’re not sitting in the dark alone. #mom #baby #MomsofTikTok #momlife #newborn
