Finding a Silver Lining✨ When my children were growing up, whenever they went through something challenging or disappointing, I'd ask them a question: “What was the silver lining?” Now, this doesn't mean I expected them to immediately find something positive, nor was I suggesting they shouldn't feel disappointed, frustrated, or upset. I validated their feelings, and sometimes we revisited the conversation later that day after they'd had time to process what happened. I wanted them to develop the ability to see past the moment and recognize that even in challenging situations, there may be something positive to take away. Sometimes it was a small sliver; the thinnest thread of positivity (or hope). Of course, I've practiced this same principle in my own life. Life doesn't always unfold the way we expect, and I learned a long time ago that I can face what's challenging and still look for a silver lining. Finding a silver lining may require us to look a little harder. We may recognize it immediately, or it could take months or even years before we can see it. But in most challenging or disappointing situations, there may be something to appreciate. And when we recognize it, it can change our perspective and bring us to a place of gratitude or gratefulness. Finding a silver lining doesn't erase what happened or diminish how we feel. It simply allows us to recognize that something meaningful or positive may still exist within the experience. And let's face it, some challenges are much more complicated or difficult than others and in those instances, we have to surrender them to God and trust Him with the outcome. Question: When you think back on challenging or disappointing experiences in your life, have you been able to sometimes identify a silver lining that brought you to a place of gratefulness?🥰 Dr. Arlayn, JD ~ #gratitude #silverlining #gratefulness #divorce #challengeyourself
