I don’t think anyone grows up imagining their life turning out the way mine did. I certainly didn’t. For a long time, my world was work, survival, and trying to hold myself together with whatever scraps of energy I had left. Somewhere along the way, I forgot what it felt like to actually live, not just function. Eventually, I reached that point where staying the same hurt more than changing. So I started stripping my life down to whatever was real. I left the things that weren’t serving me, walked away from the chaos I’d been clinging to, and decided to see who I could become if I stopped being afraid. That choice took me in directions I never could’ve planned. I stumbled into a completely new chapter of my life. I made mistakes. I doubted myself. But it was worth it. Moving to Germany challenged me, stretched me, and showed me what it actually means to begin again. These days, I share the real pieces of that journey. The culture shocks, the surprising joys, the awkward mistakes, the food, the questions, the “holy crap I actually did that” moments. And all the things that made me fall in love with Germany. It’s people. The slower pace of life. The actual fact I get to wonder around in a literal fairy tale land. 😂 If there’s one thing this crazy journey has taught me, it’s this: It’s never the one big leap. It’s the thousand tiny, brave steps you take that lead you to a life you never imagined. One day at a time. One step at a time. And if you’re taking your own little steps right now, I’m glad you’re here walking alongside me. •••••••••••• Hi, I’m Brittany a US writer and teacher living in North Germany.
