if thats a popular river and is heavily traveled with tubers and boaters, wouldn't it make the most sense to stay on the shore and flag down help?

As someone who tubes that river multiple times a year... if they had stayed ON THE RIVERBANK they would have been found within a couple of hours at the most. People fish, kayak, canoe, tube and boat that river all day and into late evening. Leaving the river was the worst decision they could have made and they are from this area, walking into thick overgrown woods should never have crossed their minds.

As someone who grew up in Newaygo and frequently was on the Muskegon river….how TF did they get lost. There’s houses all over the bank and it literally flows through so many towns

I understand getting out and hunkering down the first night but why couldn't they have just floated to the next house. That river is lined with waterfront homes.
