@kevim516: Today, while I was browsing women’s underwear at a store, another customer accused me of stealing panties. Spoiler: I hadn’t stolen anything. I also REALLY hate dishonesty. I later confronted her with a store supervisor present. Rather than acknowledging her behavior, she doubled down on the accusation and denied parts of our earlier interaction including coming back to me and asking, “What’s wrong? Are you too poor to buy underwear?” I don’t know whether my being a transgender woman had anything to do with why she singled me out. But it sucks that discrimination even has to be a possible consideration in the first place, let alone a lived reality for others. If you know me, you know I absolutely do not tolerate dishonesty, lack of integrity, and lack of accountability. The part that hurt most wasn’t even the false accusation. It was watching someone so confidently insist on something that wasn’t true, refuse to acknowledge her own behavior, and expect me to defend myself against an accusation she had absolutely no business making without evidence. I went underwear shopping today. That’s literally all I was doing. I’m not ashamed of being hurt by what happened. But I’m also not going to quietly accept being treated that way. I deserved to be treated with dignity. And I still do.#fyppppppppppppp
