Make charcoal trading illegal for the natives, but perfectly legal for us! After all, we are the ones in charge. We have sold off vast stretches of forests to be cleared in the name of our own security, displaced local communities from wetlands, and taken control over swamps ,lakes, rivers, mountains, and virtually every other natural resource. Yet, after all this, we turn around and disguise our actions as efforts to protect the environment.
To make it all possible, we use people from within these very communities to enact and enforce policies that ultimately work against their own people. Let’s also restrict their access to charcoal, a resource many depend on for their daily survival, create scarcity by limiting their ability to produce and trade it, and then exploit the resulting demand by selling it at inflated prices. In the end, the same people whose livelihoods have been disrupted are forced to pay more for a resource they can no longer freely access or trade.
When conservation becomes a tool for exclusion rather than protection, the real question is no longer whether we are saving the environment, but who gets to control its resources, who profits from that control, and who is left to bear the burden.
[You're there empty-headed, applauding them as if you'll ever be one of them. It's quite pitiful.]
