Frenk :
I’m Italian, I can say for sure, despite your obvious accent, that you pronounced it better than Steve himself.

It’s an italian surname and in italian is pronounced bu-shem-ee, like the first time you said it

SpiritOfOphelia :
I’ve done my own research on this a while back and yes, he says Boo-sem-ee, because that’s how he grew up but is very chill about people pronouncing it Bu-shem-ee because it’s not technically wrong.

In Italian, you’d pronounce “Buscemi” the way the first guy does. Honestly, I have no idea where Steve got that pronunciation from 😂

American families with foreign names often use multiple pronounciations. Like William Dafoe used a different one in the past because his family is split on how to pronounce it.

This is just the pronounciation that his Father has passed to him. It is heavily aglisized and just a snapshot of the USA of the 1960s, he himself learned about boo-she-mee only after he visited Sicily for the first time. He accepts both pronouciations, but not the Roman Italian boos-chem-ee

He says it the way it is pronounced as an American of Italian descent. In Italy, it would be pronounced BooSHEMee.

Not the first American celebrity that stated their Italian last name actual pronunciation and it’s not the correct Italian one. Ariana Grande and Joe Manganiello are the other two that come to mind, following their pronunciation their last name should be spelled Grandi and Manganello, while Buscemi should be Busemi. I get how it happens but it is frustrating when they state it like that is the correct pronunciation for that spelling and not the result of a misspelling by the migration office.
