I think in marriage, there shouldn’t be any ego involved. Ego, envy, and selfishness are the root of these issues. People want to feel powerful, so they want their partner dependent on them. Then, they become selfish and resent their partner for it… and then envy the opposite dynamic… this is just one example. That being said, marriage should be a union of two people who truly love, respect, and choose each other each and every day. It shouldn’t be a completion of two souls… it’s just a union of two complete individuals choosing to unite. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your life for the other. You shouldn’t expect your partner to be a certain way because that’s what you want. You shouldn’t expect your partner to be any less or more due to societal pressures or expectations. You should let your partner be your partner, and you be you the way you are. I think people are just so ridiculous when it comes to roles. Nobody should need a role in a marriage. The only role you should have is husband and wife, meaning your only job is to love your partner wholeheartedly. Your job isn’t to bring money, to clean, to host, to fix… It’s just to love.
