@thejoehardy: Send this to a parent who wants to start early 📲 💰 Here’s the math behind it (10% a year): 1. $64,000 total goes in by age 18. 2. By 18, it’s grown to $171,319. 3. By 43, they’ve put in $139,000. 4. By 43, it’s worth $2.1million Nearly $2 million of that is growth. That’s what 25 extra years of compounding does. 1️⃣ Step 1: Open a custodial brokerage account. Or a 529 if it’s only for college. 2️⃣ Step 2: Set up $250 a month on autopay. Out of sight, out of reach. 3️⃣ Step 3: Pick a low-fee index fund. Fees eat compounding alive. 4️⃣ Step 4: Ask family for money, not toys. That’s where the $500 birthday comes from. The S&P 500 has averaged 10.1% annually over the last 30 years. Which step are you starting first? ❓ #GenerationalWealth #InvestingForKids #CompoundInterest #ParentingTips #PersonalFinance

That math is not accurate. That’s only 63k by 18 with a 10% interest/reinvestment from the S&P that’s like 130k at 18 only 1 million at the age of 50. He somehow double all the numbers. It’s also unrealistic for 70% of Americans

Kind of limiting to only do those numbers.
I'd recommend $1,000,000 at birth, $10,000 every birthday and $1000 each month. Matter of fact, just double those number...nah, quadruple them.

Any investment for them is well worth it, even if only $30,000 at birth $10,000 each birthday and $100 a month.

These comments are so interesting to me. Why the resistance? This is completely doable!! Even if you can’t do $500 every birthday, you are investing in their futures and giving compounding interest a chance to do its thing!

To invest in an index funds for a child, you cannot open a standard brokerage account in their name. Instead, you must open a specialized account managed by an adult for the child's benefit.
