@int.animalrescue: 53 orangutans have now been rescued from areas devastated by forest and land fires in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. As fires continue to destroy vital orangutan habitat, these endangered animals are being left without food, shelter or anywhere safe to go. Among those rescued are mothers desperately trying to protect their young, and frightened juveniles found alone, with no sign of their mothers. Many have been found suffering from severe dehydration, malnutrition, burns and painful injuries. The rescue operations have been carried out by Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry, through the West Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), alongside our partners, YIARI. Several rescued orangutans are now receiving vital veterinary treatment and care at YIARI's rehabilitation centre. But the situation remains deeply concerning. With vast areas of forest reduced to ashes, more orangutans remain at risk. Our partners, YIARI, and BKSDA West Kalimantan continue to monitor the affected areas and carry out rescues where needed.
