@guardian: In Badghis province, north-west Afghanistan, the effects of climate breakdown are driving people to starvation. About 95% of the population relies on rain-fed agriculture and livestock to live but droughts are having a severe effect on the ability to produce an income. In desperate circumstances, some families have opted to sell their young daughters into marriage to repay debts, feed themselves or pay for medical treatment. Photographer @eliseblchrd travelled across Afghanistan speaking to girls as young as eight, 10 and 14 who have been engaged or married to repay debts or pay for food.
