Day 23 🤍 Kindness is strength. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what it actually means to be a kind person. For a long time, I think I confused kindness with being understanding of everyone else’s behavior, even when it came at the expense of my own peace. I thought being kind meant giving people the benefit of the doubt, being patient, forgiving easily, and always trying to see the good in others. And while I still believe in all of those things, I’ve learned that kindness without boundaries can quickly turn into self-abandonment. I’ve experienced betrayal. I’ve been disappointed by people I trusted. I’ve had moments where I wanted to be angry, bitter, resentful, or just shut myself off completely. And honestly, sometimes I was angry. Sometimes I still am. But one of the biggest lessons of my healing journey has been realizing that I get to decide who I become because of what I’ve experienced. I don’t have to let someone else’s inability to love me properly change my capacity to love. I don’t have to become guarded just because someone broke my trust. I don’t have to reciprocate unkindness just because someone was unkind to me. And I certainly don’t have to carry resentment around as proof that what happened to me mattered. It mattered. It hurt. And I can acknowledge all of that while still choosing to move forward with an open heart. Through therapy, meditation, self-reflection, and a lot of uncomfortable moments of looking inward, I’ve started to understand that real strength isn’t about being unaffected by life. It’s about feeling everything and learning that you don’t have to act on every emotion. It’s about responding instead of reacting. It’s about having compassion for others while still holding them accountable. It’s about forgiving without necessarily allowing someone back into your life. It’s about being soft without being naive. And maybe most importantly, it’s about extending that same kindness to yourself. Giving yourself grace for the things you didn’t know. Forgiving yourself for the times you ignored your intuition. Being patient with yourself as you unlearn patterns that took years to develop. I’m still learning. I still get triggered. I still have moments where my ego wants to take over, where I replay situations in my head or wish things had happened differently. But I don’t want my past experiences to dictate how much love, joy, or connection I’m willing to receive in the future. I want to be someone who has been through difficult things and still sees beauty in the world. Someone who can recognize the good in people without ignoring the red flags. Someone who can love deeply without losing herself. Because I think that’s what true kindness is. Not being nice at all costs. Not pretending nothing hurts. But consciously choosing what kind of energy you want to bring into the world, regardless of what the world has handed you. You can have a soft heart and strong boundaries. You can be forgiving and discerning. You can be kind and still walk away. And to me, that’s one of the greatest forms of strength. 🤍 #HealingJourney #ChooseKindness #SelfGrowth #InnerWork #SelfLove
