@intels5: Some parents whose adult children have cut contact believe therapy influenced the separation. In two surveys involving about 5,253 estranged parents, 31% attributed some influence to their child’s therapist, according to researcher Richard Blake, who helped develop the research. The responses also showed that 30% of parents acknowledged contributing to the conflict, while another 31% said they possibly had. The surveys gathered parents’ accounts without interviewing their adult children, so they describe how parents understand the breakdown rather than establish that therapy caused it.
