Around 1977, the Campfire Girls had an outing out there and I was invited with a friend. We toured the island and then in small groups toured the inside of the fort. Edward Rowe Snow was there as well telling the story. As we waited for our turn, we can hear the girls screaming, and they’re coming out of the fort screaming and crying. I decide I’m not going in and begin to get chastised for it from the mothers and a couple of the girls. I stand my ground. Turns out one of the mothers dressed up as the woman in black and would scare the sh*t out of the kids in the last part of the tour.
