💥 💪 MPFL and TTO Surgery 🦵💥 This case study follows a client who underwent medial patellar-femoral ligament reconstruction and tibial tubercle osteotomy to address knee instability and alignment issues. Here’s a look at their physiotherapy journey during the first four weeks of recovery: Week 1: Focus: Pain management, swelling management, quadriceps activation, initial mobility. ✔️ The client began with gentle quad activation exercises and circulatory exercises, while focusing on pain management and reducing swelling. ✔️ Crutches are used for partial-weight-bearing for the first 6 weeks. ✔️ The primary goal is to protect the healing structures and ensure the knee is stable for early recovery. Week 2: Focus: Gentle strengthening and improving knee mobility. ✔️ Progressed with active assisted range of motion exercises, aiming for controlled knee flexion and extension. ✔️ Progressed light strengthening for the quadriceps, focusing on muscle activation without overloading the joint. ✔️ Hip and calf activation exercises in standing were also introduced here to ensure functional progression. Week 3: Focus: Strength building and stability. ✔️ We switched to a ROM brace which can be locked in extension when mobilising but also unlocked to allow a progression of flexion with support. ✔️ Strengthening exercises were intensified, and the client progressed to independent straight leg raises. ✔️ Increased knee range of movement with a positional change to encourage a progression. ✔️ Gait mechanics were progressed to ensure functional progression. Takeaways: While recovery is individual, this case highlights the importance of a structured progression. This client has made excellent progress in the first four weeks and is on track for a full recovery, and with continued consistency, they are well on their way to returning to sport and functional goals! 👀 Follow for further updates on this case study #CaseStudy #KneeRehabilitation #PhysiotherapyProgress #PostSurgeryRecovery #PatellarReconstruction #TibialTubercleOsteotomy #MPFL #StrengthAndStability #KneeRecovery #PatellarInstability
