Kowthar Abdinoor :
Landlords in Eastleigh do not seem to care about the well-being of the people living in their buildings. Instead, they focus on constructing buildings as quickly as possible, without taking responsibility for proper planning. In some apartments, people cannot even make phone calls because there is poor network reception and inadequate ventilation. This is the result of construction without long-term planning.
Meanwhile, rents continue to rise, yet many of these buildings offer no proper services or essential facilities. Children born and raised in Eastleigh are forced to grow up in dark, overcrowded apartments because there are no suitable spaces for them to play and enjoy their childhood. The cost of renting a house is extremely high, yet tenants receive very little in return.
In 2020, the government promised to conduct investigations and make decisions regarding high rental costs and the irresponsible construction of residential buildings. However, the situation remains the same. Every day, we witness the poor condition of buildings and the unplanned construction taking place across Eastleigh.
I urge the government to take this issue seriously and hold landlords accountable for the buildings they construct. There must be strict enforcement of building regulations to ensure that residential buildings are safe, healthy, and properly designed. The government should also prevent excessive overcrowding by ensuring that buildings are not constructed too close together, blocking ventilation and natural light.
The people of Eastleigh deserve safe and decent housing, reasonable living conditions, and a healthy environment for their children. Housing should be about providing people with a decent place to live, not simply making money at the expense of their health and well-being.
