Lehi ranks No. 3 on SmartAsset's new list of America's boomtowns, making it the highest-ranked city outside Texas. The personal finance company scored more than 400 U.S. cities with at least 65,000 residents on five-year growth in labor force, housing units and economic output. SmartAsset defines boomtowns as the 75 cities with the highest combined growth scores. The study says the label reflects a city's expanding economic capacity, though growth may not benefit every resident equally. Lehi's labor force grew 67% between 2019 and 2024, according to the study. Only North Port, Florida, posted a bigger jump among the 75 cities on the list. Housing units in Lehi climbed 39% over the same period. Utah County's real GDP grew at a compound annual rate of 5.6%. SmartAsset used county-level GDP as a stand-in for city-level output and notes that county figures may not reflect growth inside an individual city. According to SmartAsset, Lehi's population has nearly doubled since 2010 as Adobe, Microsoft and Texas Instruments established or expanded facilities there. South Jordan is the only other Utah city on the list, at No. 62. Its housing units increased 23% and its labor force grew 11%, while Salt Lake County's real GDP grew at a compound annual rate of 3.4%, according to the study. Georgetown and New Braunfels, both in Central Texas, hold the top two spots. Each saw labor force and housing unit gains of more than 30% over five years. Florida has more boomtowns than any other state, with 19. Texas follows with 18. Several of Utah's neighbors also made the list. Arizona has seven cities in the ranking, Nevada has four and Idaho has two, including Nampa at No. 7. Portland, Maine, is the only city in the Northeast to make the cut. SmartAsset compared Census Bureau American Community Survey data from 2019 and 2024, along with Bureau of Economic Analysis GDP figures for the same years. The company says the rankings work best as comparisons, especially between cities with similar scores. Here are the top 10 boomtowns, plus where another Utah city ranked: Georgetown, Texas New Braunfels, Texas Lehi, Utah Leander, Texas Lewisville, Texas Palm Coast, Florida Nampa, Idaho McKinney, Texas Conroe, Texas Frisco, Texas South Jordan, Utah
