@fatherrichv: Please stop telling grieving people everything happens for a reason. Jesus wept with those mourning Lazarus. We can listen, bring dinner, remember the anniversary, and keep showing up. What actually helped you through grief? Share what you’re comfortable sharing. Father Rich, Message From the Margins. Filmed during my Rome visit. I believe we should see Job (iyyob). Job didn't need to be tested, he was the most righteous man on earth and God used him to shame satan. let us ptray to be as steadfast as Job. amen

I went to mortuary school, and this is one thing we don’t say. Also, I can’t stand the “god doesn’t give you what you can’t handle”. Like, what??

Bad things happen because we live in a fallen world. The best advice I can give and the best I’ve heard is “I’m sorry, are you ok?” And then a hug. Pain cannot listen to words. Our souls need to be comforted….God bless! 🙏🏻❤️

my fiancé died unexpectedly, at the showing the preist from my church showed up. He said," dont let anyone tell you that heaven needed another angel or some bullshit like that. God didnt take him from you, its a tragic awful thing that just happened." It weirdly gave me comfort and stopped me from resenting god, which i felt creeping in.

The priest told us stories about him that we didn't know. Some were funny, some were sad, but at the end we felt better. Because we felt like someone else we looked up too feels what we lost.
They were not close friends. They only met in church as worker/priest

When my dad died, monsignor said “Jesus wept when his friend Lazarus died. And if the Lord can cry, then it is more than okay for us to cry” and it was comforting to know that my grief could take up space.

Can we add “They’re in a better place” to this list, please? Because yes it’s a blessing that my mom is no longer suffering, but you cannot convince me that she’d rather be anywhere other than still here with her family and grandkids.

10000%. my mom died 2 months ago after a 3 year battle with ALS. that did not “happen for a reason.” Nothing makes me more upset.

I work at a Catholic Cemetery and this needs to be said.people do not ever get over a death, they learn how to live with it. Also, never refer the the deceased as it. The casket we will lower it. Say, we will lower your husband into the grave. Cremated remains are not ‘it’

Yes! Because Jesus didn’t talk with the grieving. He wept with them. He stood by them.

Comfort is when someone says “tell me about your favorite memory” or when they literally sit in silence next to you on a tough day. Point is don’t try to put a bandaid on someone grief. Acknowledgement is everything, even if you say “ I don’t know what you’re feeling but I’m here for you!”

I heard that so many times when I had to let go of my 28 week baby… and all I can think of was.. “so what is the reason???” I need to know because in my mind there is no valid reason that I can think of that God wanted me to go through that!
