A home invasion in Escambia County, Florida turned into a shootout after a homeowner grabbed an AK-47-style rifle and opened fire on three intruders who had forced their way into his house. The confrontation happened just before midnight on July 7th in the 700 block of Pinestead Road in Pensacola. Ring camera footage showed the suspects knocking before pushing their way inside. Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said the homeowner was alone inside when the three suspects forced entry. One pulled a handg*n from his waistband while the other two shoved the victim deeper into his own home. The homeowner initially had a handg*n of his own, but it was wrestled away during the struggle. He then ran to a back room, grabbed an AK-47-style rifle, and started firing. “The homeowner went and got an AK-47-style g*n and he started sh*oting for his own protection to get them out of his house and to protect himself,” Simmons said. All three suspects fled once the sh*oting started. Investigators later identified them as Da’Torrance Hackworth, 20, Antonio Dewayne Dean Jr., 18, and Joseph Roman Sanders. Hackworth and Dean were both charged with use or display of a firearm during a felony, possession of a firearm by a felon, and related counts, including robbery and home invasion with a firearm. Simmons said the homeowner will not face charges. “The homeowner is protecting himself and in Florida, in Escambia County, you can protect yourself,” he said. Footage of the sh*oting resurfaced widely online this year, drawing millions of views as viewers debated the use of deadly force in the confrontation.
