@tristan.van.tijen: This is how I filled a raised bed last autumn to grow salads over winter. It starts with a layer of branches collected in the forest, I prefer those as they are already starting to break down and are covered in bacteria and fungi. Next we layer on a rich nitrogen source and some greens. I'm using horse manure as it breaks down really nicely and is always easy to find. Just make sure you know the source of the horses food as the hay fed to them can have persistent herbicides on it. Then we alternate layers of leaves with greens and horse manure making the layers thinner as we go to the top. This will heat up nicely and keep the soil warm over winter. It grew salads all through the coldest months. Compared to those planted in the ground they grew a lot faster. When dug into the following summer it had all broken down apart from the larger branches and formed nice soil, growing a nice crop of tomatoes after many successions of salads #autumngardening #raisedbeds #hotbed #growyourfood #vegetablegarden

I have a question, does this last through frost? I’m in Scandinavia, Norway, and I wonder if the winter cold here is close to where you might be

The beds themselves aren't drywall. Do you build a foundation first or just cement them together?

That’s a cracking raised bed, properly thought out and built by the book. It’s just a shame to use it for nothing more than lettuce and herbs. You could grow something much more serious in there!
