@antonia_investing: Everyone told them it was gambling in 2008. Twenty years on, £6,000 had turned into nearly £24,000. Your capital is at risk, past performance isn’t a reliable guide to future returns, and this is educational content, not advice. Be honest: would you have sold in 2008? Comment HOLD or SOLD, and send this to the friend who still thinks investing is a casino. Sources: MSCI World net total return index (USD) via Alphacubator; GBP/USD monthly exchange rates, US Federal Reserve; Investing Insiders calculations. Figures exclude fees and assume no tax, as in an ISA. A few production notes. For the first two seconds, put “ -£95” in big red text on screen while you say the opening line, then flip it to “+£17,800” at the payoff so the two numbers bookend the video. A running on-screen counter of the pot value through each crash would keep people watching through the middle section. The HOLD or SOLD prompt gives people a one-word way to comment, which tends to pull far more replies than an open question, and the “send this to” line is there to drive shares

I was lucky to be in cash for the 2008 crash, then I got out just before 2021 crash and I’m currently in cash now before the forthcoming AI crash. I reckon timing the market has added 40-50% to my portfolio. So selling has been good for me.

Short meet is ignore the markets as there will always be volatility and sit tight nd keep investing as all is good on the end, 5-10 years, that’s the time

It’s time IN the market not timing the market. Compound interest if you leave your money alone. I have only just learned this and am completely behind the curve- but I’m 10% up rather than the 1.8 % up on my ISA savings.
