@cbctoronto: As more Canadians live alone during an affordability crisis, single-person households are getting hit hardest. CBC’s Talia Ricci breaks down how the so-called "single tax" makes paying rent and daily bills in Toronto harder than ever. #toronto #single #costofliving #ontario #cbcnews
There are noooo benefits or breaks for young professionals, it makes no sense!!

If they want to make it more affordable for single people, the first thing that they should do is tie wages to minimum wage. And if you make under a certain dollar value & specifically are single, they should have to increase your wages when minimum wage gets a boost. as it stands right now, a lot of employers don't touch the wages as long as you're making over minimum wage when the minimum wage comes into effect. so as long as you're the tiniest bit above minimum wage, you essentially end up making less money to do the same thing.
yes, company should give cost of living raises that keep up with inflation but they don't. and then you have people, often executives and higher-ups in the government who get bonuses and everything else, but the people who need them the most at the bottom don't get anything. this is why you have an ever increasing wealth gap.

I can PROVE I am so single and it’s expensive to afford all by myself. And so sick of people telling me to find a mate… as if we’re stray dogs.

And even the “get a roommate” argument isn’t a money saver because because splitting a 2 bedroom often isn’t cheaper and can also mean much more risk. Splitting with a partner is a money saver because you can share a room.

Groceries are a lot more. Now factor in car insurance, internet, self care and you’re spending close to $4000/month. Brutal
