🚨 CRITICAL PHP FLAWS FACE ACTIVE EXPLOITATION ATTEMPTS U.S. cybersecurity officials are urging organizations to patch two critical PHP vulnerabilities immediately after Amazon confirmed attackers were trying to exploit the flaws before the fixes became public. CISA says CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, collectively called PHP2Shell, can let an unauthenticated attacker run code remotely on a vulnerable server. PHP powers about 70% of websites worldwide, but that does not mean 70% of sites were hacked or even exposed. Risk depends on the PHP version, configuration and whether security updates have been installed. (CISA; Associated Press) Amazon Threat Intelligence says it detected an exploitation attempt on October 17, four days before public disclosure, followed by more attempts on October 21. Amazon says broad exploitation attempts are now occurring in the wild, but the PHP Foundation told The Verge it had not confirmed a successful remote-code-execution attack as of October 22. Several government and public-service websites were taken offline as a precaution while operators applied fixes. (Amazon Web Services; The Verge; Reuters) Patching is the only complete fix for both flaws, according to Amazon. Organizations that cannot update immediately are being advised to isolate affected systems, review logs and apply temporary protections while they patch. (Amazon Web Services; CISA) Should critical open-source infrastructure receive more public funding to prevent security gaps at this scale?
