His family and his girlfriend, Sarah Palin, confirmed the news on Thursday, Oct. 22. The family wrote in a social media post, “Our hearts are broken. We love you forever, Dad.” Thomas shared a photo of herself holding her father’s hand in a hospital bed. She wrote, “I love you so much, Dad. My heart is broken, but I know Jesus has you now. Until I see you again.” Palin, 62, also paid tribute. She wrote that she has a “shattered heart,” but also “deep peace knowing Ron is with Jesus now.” She added, “He fought so hard. Love never ends.” Duguay was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer more than a year ago. According to the New York Post, the cancer had spread to his liver. In February, Thomas and her sister, Amber, started a GoFundMe. They said they had seen the weight the illness placed on him, “both physically and financially.” Thomas said her dad “has never been someone who asks for help.” She said he always tried to handle everything on his own. She had been sharing updates on Instagram. In August, she posted a hospital video. She wrote that he kept smiling, cracked jokes, and stayed positive through the hardest days.
