This explains why I hated the immediate "I need something from you" as soon as I got in. I couldn't even put away my purse and coat before getting pecked at.

I can’t talk to or acknowledge any of my coworkers or clients on public transit. It’s like my disconnect time between work and home. I feel terrible about it and it makes me seem so standoffish, but the time I take to decompress from work to transition into home time is very valuable to me. I can talk to them on my way to work, but when I am done with work, I want to be *done* with work.

I need earplugs cuz the movie, and especially commercials, are way too loud. And no, with ADHD, I’m barely getting there in time to even get popcorn- let alone time for the loud commercials

I’ve recently been diagnosed with Autism and ADHD at 59 years old. I’m so greatful to find you because everything you say either explains exactly how I am or helps me understand in a way nobody else has. Thank you so much for this invaluable content.

And the more exhausted you get the longer these transitional periods get, eventually they take most of your time and the next step is a burnout.

I wonder if this is why i always have to be early to everything. I get to work 20 minutes early to get settled in. I go to events before the door opening time. makes sense now

I guess that explains why I like to get to campus by 7:15 for my 9:00 classes. I need to get “my” parking spot, spend time in my office, and make my morning coffee.

I'm having a hard time finding any support for people like myself that are late diagnosed and it's exhausting. I feel drained all the time.

Recent family graveside funeral was scheduled to start at 1:00p. We made the goal to arrive at 12:45p. Between time blindness & traffic, I arrived at 12:50p, the last one there. The entire drive I was stressed and trying to make up time. As they saw my car pull in, they started the procession immediately, so I lost the chance to decompress from a stressful drive and went directly into a memorial service. It was all a blur and I barely felt like I was there. I know people will tell me it's my fault for being "late", but I was still 10 minutes "early"

Spot on. This is a big reason why corporate jobs with a lot of meetings don’t work for me. In my last role, most days I was in back to back meetings about different topics all day long. It absolutely fried me and contributed to burnout I’m currently healing from

I have to set my morning alarm an hour and half before I need to be out of bed. I snooze over and over. then hour before turn on lamp then 30 minutes before turn on music. if I oversleep and this doesn't happen then it's a rough day. I never settle in.

I was gonna say I don't do that... then remember I can't eat food unless I'm watching something... Unless I'm at a restaurant with people... but I will wait 5m for my bf to get their things, sitting in front of the tv anxious so... I often make sure to cook my things last or time it as such

Sometimes I will drive to the store to shop and park the car, never get out, and leave after 10-15 minutes to go home again.

i have my specific outside and inside outfits, when going outside, i need to put on my outside outfit, have all my confort things in my pockets in order to get ready, when i arrive home, i get my shoes off, get my comfort clothes on and spend half an hour on the toilet doomscrolling or whatever, then i go to my room and sit there braindead for an hour until i feel like myself again

I started a new wake/sleep routine and it has helped me physically and mentally manage my day, stress and health better. Wake at 445, have time to do things that I need or want to do for myself, then at 7 get my kid ready for school then start working at 8 and it’s asleep by 930. It’s really changed a lot for me.

During those times sitting in your car or at your desk, what did you do? Like just listen to music, read, etc? I tend to spend time on my phone in transition periods and really want an alternative lol
