@timeless.mysteries6: Bernie Taupin Says Nothing Could Make Him Sell His and Elton John’s Music Catalog Bernie Taupin and Elton John have no interest in selling their music catalog. Taupin is 76. John is 79. The two have written songs together since 1967, including “Your Song,” “Tiny Dancer,” and “Bennie and the Jets.” In an interview with Billboard published Thursday, Oct. 22, Taupin said, “I don’t think there’s anything right now that could make me say yes.” He explained that he doesn’t need the money. He said that doesn’t mean he has a lot of it. It means he lives very frugally. “So, what am I going to do with it?” he asked. He also said many artists who sold their catalogs “aren’t happy about it now.” In July, he told Rolling Stone something similar. He said, “Nothing right now. Not really interested.” He added that they both have children, so why not leave it up to them? He said their view could always change. But he compared selling the catalog to “selling your children.” Taupin is also about to release his first solo album in nearly 40 years. It is called The Sea Has No Mercy, and it comes out Friday, Oct. 23. His last one was 1987’s Tribe. The album was inspired by his 2023 memoir and features Brandi Carlile and Lee Ann Womack. To celebrate, he will make his Grand Ole Opry debut on Nov. 7. Last month, he told PEOPLE the secret to working with John.
