She says agents also asked her to sign away constitutional protections afforded to members of Congress. She refused. Now, because of the publicity surrounding the raid and the death threats she already faces, Omar says her family will have to move. And here's what makes this even more concerning. According to The Washington Post, federal authorities previously examined allegations involving Omar's citizenship during Trump's first administration and found insufficient evidence to open a full investigation. The Justice Department says this latest search was conducted under a judicially authorized warrant as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. Omar has denied wrongdoing and believes the raid was intended to intimidate her. A sitting member of Congress deserves the same due process as anyone else. A warrant does not establish guilt, and political opposition is not a crime. Congress needs to demand transparency about the basis for this investigation. Because if federal law enforcement is being used to intimidate political opponents, that is an extraordinarily serious abuse of power. And the American people deserve to know the truth.
