So… do you still want a Toller after watching this? 🫣 This breed is becoming increasingly popular, and as someone on the internet sharing the joys of owning one, I’ll always be here to show the not-so-fun parts too, and why Tollers are probably not the best choice for most people. ⁣ Yes, they’re beautiful. But they’re so much more than that. They’re smart as hell, which makes training fun, but also challenging. They get bored easily, and if you don’t stay consistent and two steps ahead, they’ll outsmart you. They’re far too observant to just chill all day, every day. (But if that’s what you want, don’t get a dog at all.) If you don’t give them a job, they’ll most likely make one up. ⁣ Tollers are driven and energetic. Most need a purpose or job to thrive. If dog training isn’t your idea of fun, or at least something you’re willing to commit to for 12+ years, you probably won’t enjoy living with one. My daily life literally revolves around meeting Fox’s needs… and I love it. But owning him is a dream come true for me, and I was prepared for the challenge. ⁣ They’re also deeply sensitive. Fox notices every tiny shift in his environment and emotions. When he was younger, that made him prone to overwhelm. Even now, he can tip into overstimulation if I’m not mindful. ⁣ And yes… they’re loud. They will absolutely let you know how they feel, whenever they please. ⁣ Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers are incredible, complex, chaos-filled dogs. I love Fox more than anything, but I’ll never sugarcoat how much time, effort, and emotional energy this breed takes. If you’re ready to pour yourself into them, it can be the most rewarding partnership. But if you’re just in it for the cute red dog vibes? That ain’t it. 🫠 #novascotiaducktollingretriever #tollerscreams #cratorsearchinsights
