According to Luboyera, the affected residents had consented to the demolition before the exercise commenced. However, the process encountered resistance from some residents who questioned why their houses were being brought down. Some residents accused local tycoons of blocking the road and denying neighbouring communities an alternative access route. They said they welcomed the municipal authority’s intervention, arguing that reopening the road would improve accessibility and ease movement within the area. Among those affected by the demolition is Hajji Hussein Abdullah, the LC1 Chairperson of Mutukula Zone, who, together with several other residents, reportedly consented to the exercise to allow the municipality to reopen the road. However, disagreements emerged when the demolition began, with some residents reportedly opposing the exercise despite earlier agreements. The disagreement has sparked tension among residents, with some expressing disappointment towards those who resisted the demolition after the process had started. The municipal authorities are yet to provide further details regarding the full extent of the demolitions and the concerns raised by residents who opposed the exercise.
