Well his forms/disguises are determined by who he wants to be and how he can keep his emotions in check. Matt Hagen was not bad just because he was high and messed with someone’s girl but like even in real life a horrible physical scar like that changes you, being used while being in that state of mind changes you. Matt wasn’t just disfigured, so was his psyche that day. Which is why he can never be clayface. Matt died the day of the attack, and the months of lies, betrayals and abuse.

Did people fall asleep in the movie? The guy is obviously a bad guy and its not helped when he goes insane and starts talking to himself. I think he was so lost he was using it as an out to act another part and wasnt crazy but talking himself out of the role he was putting on for his romantic intrest.

Matt’s only problem was his need for revenge. If he could have been content with just having his face back and the ability to be anyone, but the moment he started killing people all bets were off. Though the first one was an accident, the intent was still there and that was enough.

minor spoilers. one of the points of the movie is that Matt hagen is so good at pretend to be someone else/someone hes not that he himself probably doesnt know who he is anymore. "who is the real matt hagen?" is a question that is asked early on. he also gets told whatever pent up feelings and emotions he has he needs to let them go, or he wont be able to control it. which he obviously doesnt...
