@globe_ri: Ava Dorgan often thinks about what her mother would do as she navigates life without her: During a hockey game inside Pawtucket’s Dennis M. Lynch Arena on Feb. 16, Rhonda Dorgan, 52, was shot and killed by her former husband, as was her father, Gerald Dorgan, 75, and her son, Aidan Dorgan, 23, who had lunged at the shooter to protect his mother. But Rhonda Dorgan’s passion for cheering others on and lifting them up – and her family’s longtime presence in the local athletic community – will continue with the launch of Wings of Hope: The Rhonda and Aidan Dorgan Foundation. The nonprofit organization is focused on helping single mothers like Rhonda Dorgan support their student athletes, according to president and founder Monique Nunes, a family friend. While the foundation is just getting underway, Nunes envisions it will help moms with the expensive costs associated with youth sports. Ava Dorgan wants the foundation “to spread the same love and happiness my mom gave so freely, and the strength and bravery my brother showed every day.” To learn more, please visit the link in our bio. ✍️: Christopher Gavin 📸: Debee Tlumacki for The Boston Globe
