Throughout the day, nerve signals make the tissue inside your nose swell on one side, then the other. While one nostril handles most of the airflow, the other rests, rehydrates, and rebuilds its protective mucus layer. 😮‍💨 Researchers also think two passages may help your sense of smell. Different scent molecules absorb at different speeds, so having a faster airflow on one side and a slower one on the other may help your brain pick up a wider range of smells. 👀 Two narrow passages also give air more surface area to be filtered, warmed, and humidified before it reaches your lungs. 🫁 This is normal, and most people never notice it.
