Background checks are done via social security numbers, which means someone either committed identity fraud or the company is playing around with unauthorized background checks

HR here. I’m so confused. Did you sign a waiver for them to do a background check, or was it in your offer letter that your offer was contingent upon a background check? If not, you can sue. Um secondly, please report them to the labor board for your state. ASAP. If they are in any kind of industry that’s highly regulated, report the company to their governing board.

walmart tried to fire my friend, bc they claimed he robbed a store. same name, but wasnt him, craziest thing, he was on the clock when the robbery happened. they literally could have pulled the cameras to see him working!

I’ve worked at an airport for 15 years and the head of security once brought me in his office stating that he was watching me on cameras and looking at my social media accounts because someone in my city has the same name as me and is a felon. Like… what do you want from me you guys have my social.

This happened to me before they have been confused with somebody else and the person was still in jail and I had to send them a screenshot so then they gave me the job and then I quit next next week just to show them. I don’t care.

Usually background checks are run by social security number; does the other Jenna Park also have a social security number that is very similar to yours? I knew someone who kept getting refused at polling places because someone with her same name and a very similar ss number was a convicted felon.

SUE SUE SUE. This is beyond illegal. Begin with filing a dispute with the FCRA. Lawyer up and your attorney will be able to confirm which background screening company did your background check.

you’re telling me they didn’t do a background check but were pulling your history? as someone who works in talent acquisition that sounds extremely questionable considering when we want to not move forward with a candidate due to their background we’re legally required to give them 7 days to respond and dispute anything in their report.. sounds like discriminatory hiring practices are being done at this company..

As someone who audited background checks, sometimes specific states or counties will look up by name/birthday when they can’t match a social. It’s very rare but it has happened. At my business, we have always honored an offer if the background check was cleared after everything was settled.
