@clairw34: The Hyatt salesman leaned across the table and said, "This timeshare is inflation-proof. You're locking in tomorrow's vacations at today's prices." I'm a retired accountant. I should have known better, but the brochure was gorgeous and he sounded so certain. What actually happened is that the maintenance fees went up almost every year, assessments showed up out of nowhere, and the "locked in" vacations got harder to book. The only thing locked in was us. I ran the numbers on that timeshare one night, and it was not the safe vault they described. It was a crack that kept getting wider. I called Hyatt Vacation Club to ask about leaving and got a pitch to buy more points. My wife finally said, "Find someone who will just tell us the truth." I found Stonegate. They were honest with us and didn't sell us anything new. If someone sold you a timeshare as a safe investment and the fees keep climbing, look at the next page. That's what got us out of Hyatt.
