Nope. It’s heavy patriarchal societies vs women empowerment

It's because one group is deeply religious, so ppl aren't allowed to get divorced!

Why is no one talking about how in these cultures in which the divorce rates are lower, they also just put up with more bs from their partners??

as a swede who's engaged to a romanian this actually makes me mad. there are things that cannot be forgiven and repaired, such as cheating or comitting certain crimes. why would i put up with that? what makes it worth repairing? no.

no. it's about women being unable (and scared) of leaving their husbands because they live in a society where leaving is difficult

Also women from the Nordics etc are highly independent and many men from collectivist countries cannot handle that

you missed the point. The reason for higer divorce rate is higer independence in Western World

I think there are strengths in both. Operating within the agreed upon boundaries of a relationship, respecting your partner and striving to be considerate is a great way to approach a healthy relationship. And when conflict does arise, being able to remain committed to someone and initiate repair is just as valuable. We are all human and we will make mistakes, yes. That doesn't mean we get to be thoughtlessly impulsive just because we know we can repair later. It takes a bit of both for a truly healthy relationship

You make some valid points, one you didn't touch on is; in many places where the divorce rate is lower, the financial aspect can be a contributing factor - many people, especially with children, cannot afford to break up the household.

It also has a lot to do with atheism vs. religiosity.

Yeaah the data doesnt count for where breakup or divorce would be fiscally detrimental youve got less support for domestic abuse in some of those collectivist countries. Id say data needs to be taken from countries with opposing views but similar economic climate same access to domestic abuse support that would make results a little bit more reliable

as an eastern European, it's not about repairing it, it's about being conditioned to tolerate abuse and normalizing abuse

we do need to remember that fewer get married in the nordics, which makes the divorce rates go up even though it hasn’t changed

Are we ignoring that in more socially conservative countries there is considerably more stigma attached to divorce? And that stigma is magnified for women?

It’s not only that. In Western Europe we don’t teach people to endure the suffering as they do in rest of Europe. In some regions, they teach women especially to accept and endure. That’s not right at all!

no miss, it's because Latin America is still rooted in misogyny and gender inequality. Many women are poor and don't have financial stability to leave an abusive relationship

Well,as someone grom Greece i have to tell you than most divorces don't happen because of religion and of poverty. Many couples stay together to handle the economic pressure. Some stay because their social circle is religious. But in 2026 it's just poverty. Do not compare north and south Europe without the economic factor in all aspects os life.

Noooo. As someone from a “collectivist” country that’s just toxicity 😭. Spent my entire teens hoping my parents would divorce. They finally did and they get along better than in most of their marriage. Jesus, this gave me PTSD 💀

As a Colombian with a Dane, I’d say more people stay in relationships in my country because it’s hard to manage things alone, even worse with children. People stay in bad relationships because it’s more convenient not bc of love and fixing.
