@thesportsontap: At the scouting combine, KC Concepcion could have skipped the podium. Plenty of prospects do. He has a stutter, and he has had it since he can remember talking. He took the questions anyway, and people on the internet made fun of the way he sounded. Here is what he posted that Sunday night. "This is a part of me. This is who I am. I cannot control this." "I wanna be a role model for those who may be scared to speak up, who may be afraid and not confident in yourself." It started when he was a kid playing quarterback, stuck on words in the huddle. At school the other children noticed. "Why can't you talk normal? Are you dumb or something?" He says no teachers were looking out for him and no grownups at school stepped in on the teasing. "There also wasn't anyone I knew or could look up to who was dealing with anything similar." He had his mother, Arriel, who he says never lost faith in him, not once. He was born in Rochester, New York, and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina at three. He went to Julius L. Chambers High School there, then two years at NC State and a year at Texas A&M, where he won the Hornung Award. In April he wrote an open letter to all 32 general managers. Cleveland's general manager Andrew Berry picked up the phone and called him about it. A week later the Browns drafted him 24th overall. And here is how Concepcion signed that letter off. "Did I stutter?" Now the part that complicates it. He has caught 22 passes for 186 yards and no touchdowns through six games, and he is not a cure for anybody. But look what happened after he stood up there. Damien Woody, who played ten years in the league, said he had dealt with a stammer for years. Michael Pittman Jr. said he stutters too. Then Pittman said this. "I didn't know that he also stuttered." The kid who could not find one person like himself to look up to went first, and two grown men came out from behind it. #cfb #CollegeFootball #osu #beavers #oregonstate
