It's strange how much power we give other people's opinions over the way we see ourselves. Someone compliments you, and suddenly you feel more confident. Someone criticises you, and you start questioning yourself. Someone doesn't like you, and you spend hours wondering what you've done wrong. And sometimes, you find yourself changing the way you speak, behave or make decisions simply because you're worried about how other people might perceive you. I think we need to be careful about this. Because when your sense of self-worth depends on what other people think, you're constantly allowing people to influence how you feel about yourself. And the reality is that people will always have different opinions about you. Some will admire you. Some will misunderstand you. Some will judge you without knowing anything about your circumstances. And you cannot spend your entire life trying to control how every person sees you. That doesn't mean you should ignore feedback or assume you're always right. But there's a difference between being willing to learn from what people say and allowing their opinions to determine who you are. You should be able to recognise your strengths without needing constant praise. And acknowledge your shortcomings without allowing criticism to destroy your confidence. Because ultimately, if you only feel good about yourself when other people approve of you, you're giving them far too much control over your life. Learn to know who you are, what you stand for and what you need to work on, regardless of how other people choose to see you.
