@cbcnews: The haunting loon call, which many Canadians associate with nightfall in the summer, may become less common as new research suggests ‘substantial’ population decline in North America. Canada is home to 94 per cent of the global common loon population, and this new study suggests a 40 per cent average drop in loon chick productivity in 10 of 12 study areas — including in B.C. and Ontario — over the past three or so decades. #LoonCall #Loon #CanadianWildlife #ClimateChange #CBCNews

Shorelines, irresponsible boaters, not enough enforcement of speed in narrows, causing erosion.

Used to hear looks on Georgian Bay all the time when I was a kid. Loved that sound. Hadn't heard them for at least a decade until this year! Coulda just been luck, but was hoping it was the sign of some kind of rebound.

The fluctuating water levels we are seeing from dam mismanagement is a factor too. Loons can’t trust where to nest as their nest will flood and they have to nest right along the shoreline as they are not strong walkers.

We need to protect our water ways. The fines for Logging and destruction of our forests near our water ways is NOT high enough.

I remember learning in my environmental science programme that water should have a three kilometre buffer zone where we are not doing anything to the land no homes , no roads, no parks, just let it be
